YAYYY! I'm soo glad its finally P-day. I'm sorry I didn't
get a chance to write last week. On Saturday they changed everyone's schedules
to prepare for the huge in-flux of missionaries that were coming that week,
which meant that they changed our p-day from Monday
to Wednesday ...which doesn't make very much sense since we left
on Tuesday ....but all is well. It was difficult to walk by the
computer labs and see people on the computers, but I know that we were blessed
for being obedient. The MTC was such a great experience though and that second
week FLEW BY! Once we hit Sunday it was like time started to just get faster
and faster. On our last Sunday our whole district sang "I Know That My
Redeemer Lives" and it brought me to tears. During the middle of the week
all of us were super discouraged and were having a hard time studying one
night, so we decided to all stand in a circle and sing that song and say a
prayer. The spirit was just soooo strong and all of us were uplifted to finish
out the night. So after that it officially became our district song. I'm so
grateful for the time I did have in the MTC and for the opportunity I had to
begin the process of being molded into one of Heavenly Father's tools to share
His gospel. But i'm definitely soooo glad to finally be in SAN DIEGO and eating
real food :)

We landed in San Diego around 9:30 am on Tuesday and met our
Mission President and his wife. President and Sister Clayton are just about the
nicest people EVER and all of us missionaries here are so blessed to have them.
Tuesday consisted of eating LOTS of food, taking a nap, meeting with President,
Orientation, taking another nap, meeting with the medical sister, taking
ANOTHER nap, eating more food, more orientation, and then spending the night
with the Sisters at the Mormon Battalion. I was soo exhausted but I definitely
regretted those naps the next couple of days! On Wednesday we had transfer
meeting and I found out who my companion was and where we were assigned. My
companion is Sister Sorensen and she is AWESOME! Our brains are practically on
the same wave length and we get along super well. She actually lived in Colo
Spgs for 8 yrs which just makes her even cooler :) We were assigned to the
Poway Zone in the Green Valley Ward. Poway is northern SD and is GORGEOUS!! It
has a bunch of hills, lots of greenery and flowers, and very very large houses.
We are suuuper spoiled here though! Our car is BRAND SPANKIN NEW. Its a 2013
Ford Focus and it is pretty slick. Our ward is one of the more wealthy areas
but everyone here is just so friendly and missionary minded! They used to have
one set of sisters covering GV with its sister ward (Del Norte) but now we are
all single-covering which is SUPER exciting. Now we can focus all of our
efforts on this area and be able to build it up to its full potential. GV
reminds me a lot of the Mtn Shadows ward so it already feels like home to me.
One of the bonuses of being a sister missionary: you are a CELEBRITY with the
Primary kids. They love us. Its the best :)

We don't have any investigators right now but we are working
a ton with all the auxiliary leaders to increase the missionary
effort in the ward. We have been visiting a lot of former investigators and
less actives and I had an
amazing first street-contact! We went to
go visit a former investigator named Rhonda and found a parking spot super far
away. So we park and start walking and I get this impression to get my
mormon.org cards out of my bag. At first I just
shrugged it off. Then it repeated 4 more times in my head and I didn't second
guess the Spirit that time haha I get them out and then get the impression to
write our names and numbers on the back. So I do that while we are walking and
I finish right when we get to Rhonda's door step. I kept the cards in my hand
and we knock on the door. no answer. But then to our left this guy gets out of
his car and says "Can I help you?" Turns out it was Rhonda's husband,
Alvin, and she was at work. So I told him who we are and we talked on his door
step for about 20 mins. I don't even remember much of what I said cuz it was
definitely not coming from my brain! The Holy Ghost was definitely doing all
the talking. I gave him one of my
mormon.org
cards and asked him what he knew about our church. That lead to us talking
about the Restoration, the Plan of Salvation, AND Jesus Christ's Gospel. He was
soo open with us and talked about a near-death experience he had in the Marine
Corp and how that changed his whole perspective on things. I definitely don't
like telling someone about my house burning down 5 mins after meeting them, but
I was prompted to share it with him. So I did. And I think it took him by
surprise at first but as I kept talking about my experience and the things I
learned you could tell in his eyes that he
felt it. Later on we asked if
he wanted to learn more and he said that they were moving in a week or too but
hadn't started packing or even found a place yet. So I told him that we would
gladly help them pack and clean and we could even call some elders in the new
area they move to to help them unpack. I think it took him by surprise that we
weren't just there to get him to come to our church. But that we actually
care about
them and just want to help them. He said he would give us a call and even gave
us his business card so we could call him to. It was just such a great
experience to feel the Holy Ghost lead and direct us to be in the
right
moment at the right time! On our way back to the care we even handed
out another
mormon.org card :)
I just love being a missionary with ALL my heart. I am so
humbled to be a representative of my Savior, Jesus Christ and to be apart of
HIS work sharing HIS gospel. I've only been here a week and I have already
experienced the joys and blessings that come from being obedient
and diligent. I
KNOW that I am exactly where I need to be
right now doing exactly what the Lord needs me to do. Turns out that a lot of
people in my area lost there homes in a wildfire a couple of years ago.
Coincidence? Most definitely not :) Love you all!!
